Nourishing World is pleased to introduce our new products from HealthForce. The HealthForce company was created in 1990 by holistic doctor Jameth Sheridan and naturopath Kim Sheridan. Vitamineral Green — Vital Healing Food and Vitamineral Earth — Sacred Healing Food were their first products. HealthForce now carries over 30 raw, vegan, superfood supplements, including general health supplements, products to cleanse and detox, and WarriorForce, a line for athletes. Dr. Sheridan has created the label TruGanic™ for their products, which go well beyond the basic “organic” requirements to ensure that no toxins are used at any step of the growth, harvesting, cleansing, and processing stages, and that products are actually verified for purity.

Nourishing World now carries three HealthForce products: Vitamineral Green, Vitamineral Earth, and Liver Rescue. We’ll talk about each one in the coming weeks, but let’s start with Vitamineral Green — and more specifically, why these supplements are now necessary.

Lifeless Vegetables

Years ago, farmers worked hard to rotate their crops, apply animal manure, and keep their soil rich and fertile. If they did not rotate their crops, the soil would quickly become depleted of the nutrients necessary to grow food. Over the past century, farming methods have changed, thanks to the advent of synthetic fertilizers and genetic modifications. Now, farmers can grow the same plant in the same field year after year, without affecting their yields. They no longer use animal manure as fertilizer and even the bugs that formerly died and decayed in the fields no longer enrich the soil, thanks to chemical pesticides. The result is produce that may look fine outwardly, but lacks many essential nutrients.

Journal of the American College of Nutrition study, conducted by Donald Davis and his team of researchers, tracked nutrient levels from 1950 to 1999 in over 40 kinds of fruits and vegetables. The result was a marked decline in many nutrients studied, which included protein, iron, calcium, phosphorus, and vitamins B2 and C. Studies from the Kushi Institute and the British Food Journal both found approximately 20% decline in various nutrients, including a 37% decline in iron and a 30% drop in vitamin C content over several decades.

Vitamineral Green aims to remedy the nutrient losses due to soil depletion by using whole food superfood ingredients. Made from healthy grasses, seaweeds, algae, enzymes, and probiotics, HealthForce calls this a healing food, not a supplement. Each serving is packed with vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants, amino acids, and fiber, all in ratios that occur in nature. While synthetic or isolated nutrients are not readily available to the body, Vitamineral Green’s whole food nutrients are both balanced and highly bioavailable.

Vitamineral Green contains:

  • Aquatic greens, including chlorella, spirulina, alaria, bladderwrack, kelp, dulse, and nori
  • Leaves and grasses, such as nettle, alfalfa, barley, dandelion, chickweed, holy basil, shavegrass, and yacon
  • Enzymes: protease, amylase, lipase, cellulase, bromelain, papain, alpha-galactosidase
  • Probiotics, including L. plantarum, L. paracasei, L. rhamnosus, L. salivarius, L. bulgaricus, Streptococcus thermophilus

Vitamineral Green can be taken in any quantity without toxicity. It is ideal as a daily boost to overall health, and excellent for detoxifying, modulating blood sugar, regulating digestion, improving the immune system, and supporting vital organs.

Vegan Coconut Cream Parfait

By Ali Wetherbee

This Coconut Cream Parfait, adapted from a recipe by Celebrity Vegan Chef Jason Wrobel, is a fresh, delicious, easy breakfast, light lunch, or dessert. The coconut provides healthy fats and nutrients, while the protein powder adds lots of raw, plant-based protein and essential amino acids. With no added sugar, no grains, and no animal products, this is great for vegetarians, vegans, those following Paleo, dairy-free, or gluten-free diets, and anyone who is lactose intolerant. Plus, it looks beautiful, and would be a perfect  dessert to bring to your next party or potluck!

Vegan Coconut Cream Parfait

  • 3 cups coconut meat
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground vanilla
  • 5 drops liquid Stevia
  • 2 Tbsp Sunwarrior Warrior Blend, Sun Warrior Classic, or Perfect Plant Protein protein powder
  • 3-4 seasonal fruits, peeled and chopped: mango, strawberries, blueberries, blood oranges, blackberries, passion fruit, or any other favorites

  1. If you are using a whole coconut, make holes at the eyes using a screwdriver and hammer, and invert over a bowl to drain and save all the liquid. Then tap all the way around with the hammer to create a hairline crack down the middle. Split open and break into smaller pieces. Wedge a knife between the meat and the shell and twist slightly to pop the shell off each piece.
  2. Mix the first five ingredients in a blender on low speed.
  3. Continue blending until the mixture reaches a smooth consistency.
  4. Add the Sunwarrior Warrior Blend protein powder and blend until well combined. This is your coconut cream base.
  5. Spoon a layer of the coconut cream base in the bottom of individual jars or a parfait dish.
  6. Add a layer of fruit, and continue alternating layers of cream & fruit.
  7. Garnish with fresh berries or a sprig of mint.
  8. Eat immediately — this dish does not store well.
